Painter of light. Jose Royo
Jose Royo, Spanish painter, was born in Valencia, his artistic talent was evident very early. At the age of 9 years old his father, a famous physician and avid art lover, hired tutors to teach his son the basics of painting and sculpture. When Royo turned 14 he entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia. After the beginner artist turned 18, he continued his artistic education privately with Aldolfo Ferrer Amblatom, chairman of the Department of Art at the Academy of San Carlos.
He also visited various museums in Europe, where he studied in detail the works of famous artists: Velazquez, Goya, Renoir, Monet, and Sorolla. Interesting parallels can be drawn between the work of Royo and the famous Spanish master, Joaquín Sorolla. Both were born in Valencia, both received a classical education, both "ripe", working in the style of landscape painting, trying to catch the dramatic essence of their homeland - Valencia and the Mediterranean Sea. And they are both "artist of the world", and some specify, calling them "Artists of the South of light" that is, the southern coast of Spain. cars Smolensk
It's overwhelming influence Sorolla, mixed with his own style, a fabulous prevritilo Mediterranean coast unknown world full of mystery and brute force. Broad strokes, bold impasto palette and grab the viewer's eye and pull it inside until it comes the final, absolute realization that one is actually already in the picture, it feels light, feel the heat of the sun, the taste of salt and sea spray on the lips and hear crashing surf. Royo conveys not only the image but also the mood and atmosphere.
